What boxes should you use when moving house? What are the best ways to secure furniture during transit?

When moving house, you can be both excited about the new place and terrified of the moving process itself. Particularly, if you have to pack, transport, and secure all your belongings at once. That’s why it is crucial to make a plan before moving house. Without it, both packing and unpacking your belongings could be chaotic. What can you do to make moving furniture and other items easier for yourself?

Organize your move well in advance.

Before the removal van pulls up, consider where to begin and where to store the packed items. Packing can take up to several days, so it is worthwhile to take your time and plan ahead. It is also important to use quality packing materials. Neither cardboard boxes nor adhesive tape should run out suddenly. Preparation is key to organizing your moving process, including purchasing the right packing materials in advance, such as sturdy boxes with handles. It will make it easier to transport your belongings and unpack them at your new location.

Packing materials that are useful include;
• Removal boxes
• Bubble wrap
• Stretch foil
• Packing paper
• Tape
• Fragile sticker or fragile tape
• Sharpie

These materials allow you to organize things stowed in cardboard boxes, secure furniture, and even transport fragile items securely.

Packing: where to begin?

First, take a look at what you want to bring with you to your new place. This is a good time to get rid of stuff you no longer need. The items you use the least often or can live without for a while should be packed first. Stack the cardboard boxes with bubble wrap and stretch wrap to protect them. Afterward, load them into the car and transport them to the new location, altogether with the rest.

Things that are used every day are only packed at the end.

When you’ve packed your spare bedding, seasonal clothes, and books, it’s time to pack the items you use regularly. It includes, among other things, stuff that will be needed shortly after the move as well as daily use items and furniture.

For things you’ll need on the first day, make yourself a separate cardboard box. You may need hand soap, kitchen towels, cleaning products, a pot, a pan, or food to prepare a quick meal. These things will make it easier for you to settle into your new space and begin cleaning it right away.

Furniture – the biggest challenge of moving houses.

Let’s leave the furniture until last – for a simple reason. You should empty them of other items, which should be put in cardboard boxes immediately after getting them out. Only then can you start dismantling the furniture. A properly secured piece of furniture can be transported hundreds of kilometers without sustaining damage. Special transport belts are used to hold elements on the back of vehicles so that they do not move around. Nevertheless, you should secure the furniture at home before transporting it. What’s more, furniture should be transported by a specialized removal company, which will secure it properly.

How to secure furniture for a move?

The most important thing when transporting furniture is to ensure that it is well protected. Whenever possible, it is a good idea to disassemble furniture on site. Shelf units can be separated from cabinets and secured separately, and cabinets themselves can be closed and wrapped in stretch film or a protective cover.

Glass display cabinets are the most likely to be damaged, so it’s worth wrapping them in bubble wrap or securing them with cardboard and then stretching film. Make sure such pieces of furniture are labeled as fragile. Since the carrier can secure fragile furniture differently during transport, this reduces the risk of damage.

The term furniture is not just about cabinets, but also about electronic appliances

How about white goods, electronics, and computer equipment? In order to protect small items such as laptops, you can buy a special reinforced cardboard box and wrap it with strong adhesive tape. Meanwhile, appliances like washing machines or cookers should be transported according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Only then you can be sure that they will arrive in perfect condition and will continue to serve you well.
